Coming off of a successful return to their home court at the Perth High Performance Centre, the Lynx are on the road again in Round 9, this time to take on the top-of-the-table Townsville Fire.
Taking to the Townsville Entertainment Centre court for the first time in the WNBL26 season, the Lynx will be hungry to steal the win from the league dominators, as the Fire sit comfortably atop the WNBL standings, with only one loss to tarnish their season performance thus far.
Claiming the win in front of their home crowd last Friday, Amy Atwell had a massive day out, notching an unbelievable 32 points - including six three-pointers - and well and truly taking the title of Player of the Match. Lynx legend Alex Ciabattoni (21 points, four rebounds, five assists) and the WNBL’s newest t superstar, Han Xu (19 points, three rebounds) added plenty of points to the score, with yet another double-double from Anneli Maley helping the Lynx to seal the deal.
Holding off Australian Opals Maddi Rocci (24 points, eight rebounds, eight assists) and Cayla George (16 points, 15 rebounds), the Lynx held a consistent lead throughout the match, closing with a 17-point win at the final buzzer (98-81).
Preparing now to take on the toughest team in the competition, the Lynx will push for an edge with Han Xu having joined the Lynx outfit since the two teams last me in Round 3 - an encounter that the Fire won; 79-70.
A formidable team, the Fire’s leading scorers Miela Sowah (averaging 18.5 points per game) and Courtney Woods (14.5 ppg) will force the Lynx to dig deep and unleash their skill as they hunt down the Fire.
