The final game of Round 3 promises to be the match of the round – and potentially the match of the season so far – as the undefeated Perth Lynx return home to face the early 2025-26 season favourites, Townsville Fire, in a high-stakes semi-final rematch.
The Lynx come into the game with a perfect 3–0 record, fresh off a thrilling one-point win over the Geelong Venom in Victoria on Saturday night. That victory marked the return of Olympian Ally Wilson and defensive specialist Steph Gorman, both making their season debuts and immediately impacting the game. Wilson finished with 14 points and four rebounds in just 20 minutes, while Gorman added defensive intensity and composure in crunch time.
Brianna Turner was again dominant inside, collecting 16 rebounds and 13 points, while Amy Atwell, Anneli Maley and Alex Ciabattoni continue to lead a balanced and dangerous Lynx rotation. With Yemiyah Morris anchoring the paint, Perth’s size and versatility have been key to their early success.
Townsville, meanwhile, suffered their first loss of the season on Friday night, going down 89–83 to the Southside Flyers in Melbourne. Despite strong performances from Courtney Woods (23 points, nine assists) and Lucy Olsen (22 points), the Fire couldn’t contain veteran Cayla George, who sealed the game with a clutch three and free throws late.
The Fire will be looking to bounce back quickly, with Abbey Ellis, Alicia Froling and Alexandra Fowler expected to play key roles. It will also be the first time Miela Sowah suits up to face her old team, after her breakout season with the Lynx in 2024-25 saw her named in the All WNBL Second Team.
With both teams boasting deep rosters and Championship ambitions, expect a high-intensity contest from the opening tip. The Lynx will be eager to protect their unbeaten record on home soil, while Townsville will be out to prove their early stumble was just a blip.
Tip-off is at 6.00pm AWST at Perth High Performance Centre. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster, and fans are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the game day experience.
