Perth Lynx return home this weekend for their highly anticipated Round 2 game at their new full-time venue, the Perth High Performance Centre, taking on the Sydney Flames in what promises to be a high-energy clash between two Round 1 winners.
The Lynx kicked off their season with a gritty 75–72 win over Adelaide Lightning on the road. Despite a late surge from the hosts, Perth held firm thanks to standout performances from Alex Ciabattoni (21 points) and Anneli Maley, who dominated the glass with 14 rebounds. The Lynx’s early 26–9lead proved crucial, as they weathered Adelaide’s comeback and showed poise in the final minutes.
Sydney, meanwhile, looked sharp in their 85–77 win over Geelong Venom. Lauren Nicholson was electric in her return to the WNBL, dropping 25 points and hitting five triples, while Keely Froling added a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) and 7 assists, showcasing her all-around game.
Fans will be keen to watch the match-up between Maley and Froling- two of the League’s most versatile forwards - where Maley’s rebounding prowess will be tested against Froling’s physicality and playmaking.
Meanwhile, the battle between Ciabattoni and Nicholson will also be vital, where the Perth veteran will need to be sharp defensively to contain Nicholson, who shot 50% from deep last week.
Although early in the season, both teams will enter Round 2undefeated. The Lynx’s home-court energy and rebounding edge could give them the slight advantage - if they can contain Nicholson and win the battle on the boards, they’ll be in a strong position to go 2–0.
