The Perth Lynx will return home to the Perth HPC hoping to close out Round 14 in triumphant fashion, vying for a second win of the round against the Townville Fire.
After a trying game against the Bendigo Spirit saw the Lynx dig deep to steal the lead in the final term, the team landed themselves in front by four points against the reigning Champs at the final buzzer, which now guarantees them a spot in the 2026 post-season. With the win pushing them up to second position in the WNBL standings, the Lynx will now take on the top-of-the-table Townsville Fire in what is sure to be a tight contest.
Formidable performances from Han Xu (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Anneli Maley (10 points, 16 rebounds) supported game-winning showing from Ally Wilson (26 points, five rebounds, three assists), who produced an instrumental 3-pointer to seal the win in the final minutes of the game.
Keeping Spirit star, Izzy Borlase (19 points, 10 rebounds), under 20 points for the game, the Lynx were well and true shining as they opened up HoopsFest in front of a boisterous home crowd.
The Lynx will now return to their home court after a long time on the road, with their win at RAC Arena well and truly putting wind in their sails as they gear up to take on the ladder-leading Fire, in a round that is special for many within the WNBL community; Pride Round.
The Fire - who also took home a win at HoopsFest on Sunday night - will pose a threat to the Lynx, with Courtney Woods (20 points, five rebounds, 10 assists) and Alicia Froling (14 points, five rebounds) continually causing havoc for their opposition.
The teams last went head-to-head in Round 9, with the Lynx taking out the win by 16 points to knock the Fire down a rung on the ladder.
With a difference of one win (14-15) between the two teams (with the Fire also having one more game under their belts), the Lynx will have the opportunity to reach the top of the WNBL26 standings if they can push for a victory to close out Round 14.
