Perth Lynx will take on their first post-Christmas match at home, preparing to take the court only once this round against Geelong Venom.
The Lynx - fresh off of a victory against the Canberra Capitals heading into Christmas - have well and truly established themselves as a tough contest for every competitor in the WNBL26 season.
After a double victory in Round 10, the Lynx stamped their authority on the tournament the week prior when they knocked off the then top-of-the-table Townsville Fire on their home court. In their final match of 2025, they'll be looking to notch a sixth consecutive win.
Closing out their Round 10 campaign, Australian Opal, Ally Wilson, dominated the court, adding 25 points and six assists to the scoreboard. Fresh off the back of a surprising omission from the latest Opals squad, Anneli Maley once again put selectors in a tricky situation, scoring 16 points and pulling down 21 rebounds, allowing the team to hold off the Caps by 26 points (75-49).
The Venom, who currently sit at second-last on the ladder, will bring their all to the Perth High Performance Centre, with plenty to prove in order to inch closer to finals contention. The Geelong group fell to the Capitals by only four points last weekend away from home, with massive efforts from Jazmin Shelley (29 points, four rebounds) and Shyla Heal (18 points) proving the Venom have what it takes to step up.
Last time the two teams met, the expertise of Mackenzie Holmes (who is currently averaging 20 points and nine rebounds per game) was enough to keep the Lynx down, with the Venom taking one of their three season wins against the Perth squad (88-69).
However, with the home court advantage and new addition Han Xu in tow since the teams’ last contest, the third placed Lynx will be confident in their game plan as they fight for a sixth win on the trot.
