Local sharpshooter Ashby commits to Perth Lynx for WNBL27

The Perth Lynx are pleased to announce that Samantha Ashby has committed to the club for the upcoming WNBL27 season, subject to WNBL review and approval.

The local Western Australian guard joins the Lynx following a standout NBL1 West campaign with the Perth Redbacks, earning a WNBL opportunity after establishing herself as one of the competition's premier backcourt players.

Ashby delivered an outstanding 2026 season for the Redbacks, averaging 21.41 points, 6.06 rebounds, 4.06 assists, 3.47 made three-pointers and 2.53 steals per game.  Her all-round impact on both ends of the floor saw her recognised with selection in the NBL1 West All Second Team.

Widely regarded as one of the league's most dangerous perimeter shooters, Ashby has continued to develop her game through the WA basketball pathway and now earns the opportunity to take the next step in her career with her hometown WNBL club.

Ashby said she was excited to join the Lynx and represent Western Australia at the highest level.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the Perth Lynx for WNBL27," Ashby said.

"As a local player, it's always been a goal of mine to earn the chance to play in the WNBL, so to do that with my hometown club is really special.

"I've loved my time with the Perth Redbacks and I'm thankful to everyone who has helped me along the way. I'm excited to learn from the coaching staff and experienced players around me, and I'll be ready to do whatever I can to contribute to the team's success."

Perth Lynx Head Coach, Ryan Petrik, said Ashby's strong NBL1 form made her a deserving addition to the squad.

"Sam has earned this opportunity through the work she's put into her game and the level she's consistently performed at in NBL1 West," Petrik said.

"She's an elite shooter who can really stretch the floor and impact games offensively, but what impressed us most this season was her all-round game. Her scoring, playmaking and defensive activity were all at a very high level.

"We're passionate about creating pathways for Western Australian talent and Sam is a terrific example of that. She's continued to improve year after year, and we're excited to see her take this next step with the Lynx."

Ashby joins Alex Ciabattoni, Steph Gorman, Nya Lok, Anneli Maley, Teige Morrell, Haley Peters and Sami Whitcomb as players already locked into the Perth Lynx roster for the WNBL27 season.
